About this scholarship

Brother Ronald Fogarty was a Marist Brother who made a significant and important contribution to the study and practice of Catholic Education in Australia. His published works are relevant, not only to the Catholic and educational sphere of Australian history but also provide insight into the development of Australian society as a whole. This scholarship was established by the Marist Brothers in 2018, to commemorate and acknowledge Br Ronald Fogarty’s life and contribution to Catholic Education in Australia and to encourage pre-service teachers as they prepare for their teaching professions in catholic schools.

Eligibility

This scholarship is open to applicants who meet all of the following criteria:

  • Citizenship: Domestic
  • Faculty: Education & Arts
  • Course: enrolled in one of the following: 
    • Bachelor of Education (Primary)
    • Bachelor of Education (Primary and Secondary)
    • Bachelor of Education (Primary and Special Education)
  • Placement: admitted to the Embedded Teacher Formation Experience
  • Campus: Melbourne
  • Year level: second or third year (as of Semester 1, 2025) 
  • Study load: full-time


Application process

Applicants will be required to provide the following as part of the application:

  • A written statement* of approximately 300 words outlining:
    • why you have chosen to undertake your degree.
    • how the Embedded Teacher Formation Experience will help you in your career as a teacher.
    • how obtaining your degree will allow you to give back to your community.

 *Statements are assessed on content, not language skills. If you access assistance from advisors, tutors or AI technology to complete your personal statement, please ensure that your submission accurately reflects your personal situation with regards to the criteria.


Selection criteria

Applications are assessed based on the strength of the following criteria:

  • Written statement
  • Academic merit (based on current GPA)

 

Selection process

Applicants will be shortlisted by the Scholarships office and recipients selected by ACU's State Head of Education VIC.


Other

  • Recipients will be requested submit an Impact Statement for the donor explaining how the scholarship assisted them and the learnings from the Embedded Teacher Formation Experience. This report should be submitted to the Scholarship Office no later than 1 October in the year the scholarship is awarded.
  • Recipients will be invited to a presentation event and are requested to attend if this does not impede placement or study commitments.
