About this scholarship

This is an endowed scholarship established in 2006 by the Sisters of Mercy in Queensland to honour Sister Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy, and in recognition of the predecessor college McAuley College.

Eligibility

This scholarship is open to applicants who meet all of the following criteria, by the scholarship application close date:

  • Citizenship: domestic
  • Faculty: Health Sciences, Education and Arts or Law and Business
  • Course: any ACU undergraduate degree 
  • Campus: Brisbane
  • Enrolment in Semester 1, 2024
  • Leadership and/or community engagement 

 

Application process

Applicants will be required to provide the following as part of the application:

  •  A written statement of approximately 200 words outlining;
    • why you have chosen to undertake your degree
    • what you hope to achieve with it in the future
    • how your chosen field of study contributes to the good of society and also how you can contribute
  • Evidence of your involvement and/or leadership in community service through activities designed to create a more just, merciful and sustainable world.
  • A letter of recommendation. This can be from any of the following:
    • Academic
    • Community service based
  • If you live (or have lived) in a rural or regional area, please provide evidence of your address (only if relevant)  

 

Selection criteria

Applications are assessed based on the strength of the following criteria:

  • Written statement
  • Community service
  • Letter of recommendation

Preference will be given to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants, those with social and economic disadvantages, and students from regional, rural and remote areas as classified by the Rural, Remote and Metropolitan Area (RRMA).

 

Selection process

Applicants will be shortlisted by the Scholarships Office and a recipient selected by the donor.

 

Ongoing requirements

To remain eligible for this scholarship, recipients are required to maintain the following each semester for the duration of the scholarship:

  • minimum Pass grade in all units enrolled in the previous study period


Other

Recipients will be requested to submit an Impact Statement for the donor, explaining how the Scholarship has assisted them. The letter should be submitted to the Scholarships Office no later than 1 October each year.
