About this scholarship
In 2026, the Daughters of Charity established this endowed scholarship to mark 100 years of service to communities in Australia. It stands as both a celebration of their legacy and a commitment to supporting the next generation of women called to serve others.
Founded in Paris in 1633 by St Vincent de Paul and St Louise de Marillac, the Daughters of Charity were the first non-cloistered order of women religious-stepping beyond convent walls to meet people where they were: in hospitals, homes, and on the streets. That spirit of service continues today.
Grounded in a deep commitment to healthcare, education, social justice, and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, this scholarship aims to create opportunities for students whose potential is strong and whose contributions to their communities will be meaningful and enduring.

Eligibility
This scholarship is open to applicants who meet all the following criteria:
- Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students (Confirmation of Aboriginality will be required)
- Gender: Female
- Level: enrolled in undergraduate degree in Semester 1, 2027.
- Campus: North Sydney, Strathfield, Blacktown
- Financial hardship
Application process
Applicants will be required to provide the following as part of the application:
- A written statement* of approximately 250 words outlining:
- A significant experience in your life/work/community shaped your perspective and motivate you to pursue higher education
- What responsibilities, commitments, or circumstances have you balanced on your pathway to higher education.
- Upload Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status (for more information on this requirement, please visit, COA)
- Evidence of financial need;
- Most recent Tax Assessment Notice OR
- Centrelink Income Statement OR
- Last two months of bank statements AND pay slips from the last 6 weeks.
*Statements are assessed on content, not language skills. If you access assistance from advisors, tutors or AI technology to complete your personal statement, please ensure that your submission accurately reflects your personal situation with regards to the criteria.
Selection criteria
Applications are assessed based on the strength of the following criteria:
- Written statement
- Financial need
Preference will be given to students enrolled in Health, Education and Social Justice courses.
Selection process
The recipient will be selected by the Scholarships Office.
Other
- In the year the scholarship is awarded, recipients will be asked to submit an Impact Statement for the donor explaining how the scholarship has assisted them.
- Recipients will be invited to an ACU presentation event and are requested to attend if this does not impede placement or study commitments
