About this scholarship

Established in 2007 by the George Alexander Foundation (GAF), founded by the late industrialist and philanthropist George Alexander AM, for the purpose of assisting outstanding students, especially those demonstrating exceptional leadership potential and community participation, particularly those from rural and regional communities, to achieve their undergraduate educational goals at the Ballarat Campus.

  • The scholarship is valued at $25,500, to be paid instalments of $4,250 per semester for students in a three-year course and $3,187.50 per semester for students in a four-year course.
  • There are five scholarships available.

Eligibility

This scholarship is open to applicants who meet all of the following criteria:

  • Commencing a new ACU course in Semester 1, 2027
  • Citizenship: domestic 
  • Course: any ACU undergraduate degree
  • Have not previously commenced a degree at undergraduate level or higher
  • Study load: full-time 
  • Campus: Ballarat
  • Attained a minimum ATAR ranking of 75 or equivalent

  

Application process

Applicants will be required to provide the following as part of the application:

  • Completed application form
  • Evidence of academic merit from your most recent studies
    • ATAR or equivalent; or
    • academic transcript (including GPA)
  • Resumé
  • Two reference letters (one academic and one either community or employment based)
  • (If applicable) Evidence of regional, rural or remote address as classified by the ASGS Remoteness Areas (ASGS 2021)


Selection criteria

Applications are assessed based on the strength of the following criteria:

  • Your responses to the questions in the George Alexander Foundation Scholarship Application Form
  • Academic merit
  • Resume
  • Reference letters
  • Preference will be given to students relocating from regional, rural or remote areas.


Selection process

Applicants will be assessed for eligibility by the Scholarships Office, and recipients selected by an advisory committee, including representatives from GAF.

 

Ongoing requirements

To remain eligible for this scholarship, recipients are required to maintain the following each semester for the duration of the scholarship:

  • A minimum grade point average of at least 5.0 (credit)
  • A minimum Pass grade for all units
  • A full-time study load at the Ballarat campus


Other

  • Provide an annual report on progress and learning for the George Alexander Foundation. 
  • Recipients will also be invited to a presentation event, and networking events with other George Alexander scholars and are requested to attend if this does not impede placement or study commitments.
