About this scholarship

Established by the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, Queensland, through Australian Catholic University, to commemorate and honour the work of their foundress Mary MacKillop. This scholarship recognises and rewards undergraduate ACU students who can demonstrate support and involvement in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Eligibility

Applications are open to applicants who meet all of the following criteria:

  • Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students (Confirmation of Aboriginality will be required)
  • Course: any ACU undergraduate degree
  • Campus: Brisbane
  • Study load: full-time enrolment in Semester 1, 2024
  • Contributed to, and/or leadership in community service

 

Application process

Applicants are required to provide the following as part of the application:

  • A written statement of approximately 200 words outlining how this Scholarship could financially support you in your studies.
  • Evidence of you contribution to, and/or leadership in, community service
  • Evidence of academic merit from your most recent studies (applies to future students only)
    • ATAR or equivalent; or
    • academic transcript (including GPA)
  • Upload Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status (for more information on this requirement please visit, COA)

Selection criteria

Applications are assessed based on the strength of the following criteria:

  • Written statement
  • Community service
  • Academic merit

 

Selection process

Recipients will be selected by the Scholarships Office in consultation with the First Peoples Directorate.

 

Other

Recipients will be requested to submit an Impact Statement for the donor explaining how the scholarship has assisted them. This should be submitted to the ACU Scholarships Office no later than 1 October in the year the scholarship is awarded.
