About this scholarship
Rotary District 9780 is a community service organisation and member of Rotary International, a global community of more than 1.2 million men and women dedicated to building a better world. The Rotary District 9780 Ballarat Scholarship was established in 2015 to help rural and regional Victorians who are engaged in their local community and require financial support to access tertiary education at Australian Catholic University’s Ballarat campus.

Eligibility
This scholarship is open to those who meet all of the following criteria:
- Citizenship: domestic
- Faculty: Health Sciences and Education and Arts
- Course: Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Paramedicine, Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Paramedicine, Bachelor of Physiotherapy or the Bachelor of Education
- Campus: Ballarat
- Year level: first, second or third year (as of Semester 1 2025)
- Study load: full-time enrolment in Semester 1, 2025
- Financial hardship
- From a regional, rural or remote area of Victoria, as classified by the Rural Remote and Metropolitan Area (ASGS 2021).
Application process
Applicants will be required to provide the following as part of the application:
- A written statement* of approximately 400 words outlining:
- how you engage with your local community and how this reflects ACU's Mission and Values.
- any hardships or barriers you have faced in accessing higher education, and how your degree will change your future.
- how the Scholarship and your degree will assist you in fulfilling a commitment to the ethos of the University.
- Letter of recommendation (community engagement)
- Letter of recommendation (professional or academic)
- Resume (include educational background, employment, volunteer work, academic achievements)
- Evidence of regional, rural or remote address
- Evidence of academic merit from your most recent studies (applies to future students only)
- ATAR or equivalent; or
- academic transcript (including GPA)
- Evidence of financial hardship:
- most recent Tax Assessment Notice; or
- Centrelink Income Statement; or
- the most recent 60 days of bank transactions AND pay slips from the last 6 weeks
*Statements are assessed on content, not language skills. If you access assistance from advisors, tutors or AI technology to complete your personal statement, please ensure that your submission accurately reflects your personal situation with regards to the criteria.

Selection process
Applicants will be selected by the Scholarships Office.
Other
- Recipients will be requested to submit an Impact Statement for the donor explaining how the scholarship has assisted you. The letter should be submitted to the Scholarships Office no later than 1 October in the year the scholarship is awarded.
- Recipients will be invited to a presentation event and are requested to attend if this does not impede placement or study commitments.
