About this scholarship
This Scholarship was established in 2019 to create opportunities for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students at the Brisbane campus to pursue studies in nursing.
St Vincent’s Private Hospital Northside is a tertiary acute medical surgical hospital providing services including Cardiothoracic and Vascular, Orthopedics, Cancer Services and Bariatrics. Founded in 1957 St Vincent’s Private Hospital Brisbane has a long-standing reputation for providing rehabilitation services, palliative care, and perioperative services for acute pain. Recipients are given the opportunity to complete their graduate year at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Northside or St Vincent’s Private Hospital Brisbane.

- This scholarship is valued at up to $5,000, to be paid in instalments of $2,500 per semester.
- There are two scholarships available.
- There may also be an opportunity for a placement at St. Vincent's Hospital Brisbane in one of the following areas:
- Palliative care
- Rehabilitation
- Pain Management
- Urology/ENT/Orthopedics
- Orthopedics
- Colorectal/General Surgery/Bariatrics
- Acute Medical/Endocrine surgery
- Medical Oncology/Hematology (including exposure to Day Oncology)
- Cardiothoracic/Vascular
- Cardiology
- Procedural areas (General OT/Endoscopy/Cath Lab)

Eligibility
This scholarship is open to applicants who meet all of the following criteria by the application close date:
- Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students (Confirmation of Aboriginality will be required)
- Campus: Brisbane
- Course: enrolled in one of the following:
- Bachelor of Nursing
- Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Business Administration
- Study load: full-time enrolment in Semester 1, 2026
- Year level: final year of degree (as of Semester 1, 2026)

Applicants will be required to provide the following as part of the application:
- A written statement* of approximately 300 words outlining:
- why you chose a career in nursing
- how this scholarship will contribute to your community
- how you hope to demonstrate ACU’s Mission and Values through your future work in nursing.

- Academic merit (based on ACU results)
Selection process
- Applicants will be shortlisted by the Scholarships Office in consultation with the First Peoples Directorate.
- Shortlisted applicants will be Invited to attend an interview with a committee comprising of; the donor's Mission and Nursing representatives, a representative of the School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Paramedicine – Brisbane, and a representative of the First Peoples Directorate.
Ongoing requirements
To remain eligible for this scholarship, recipients are required to maintain the following each semester for the duration of the scholarship:
- Minimum pass grade for all units in which they were enrolled in the previous study period
- Full-time enrolment
- Enrolment in the Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Business Administration
- Enrolment at the Brisbane campus
Other
Recipients will also be requested to submit an impact statement for the donor explaining how the scholarship has assisted them. The letter should be submitted to the Scholarships Office no later than 1 October each year.
