About this scholarship
Celebrating its centenary in 2023, the St Vincent’s Nurses Alumni (SVNA) is a not- for- profit, voluntary organisation operating under the auspices of St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne (SVHM). Through fundraising and donations, a scholarship has been established to award students in recognition of and to further support nursing excellence.

Eligibility
This scholarship is open to those who meet all the following criteria:
- Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students (Confirmation of Aboriginality will be required)
- Study load: full-time
- Faculty: Health Sciences
- Course: Bachelor of Nursing (including dual degree)
- Campus: Melbourne and Ballarat
- Commencing studies in Semester 1, 2025
Application process
Applicants will be required to provide the following as part of the application:
- A written statement* of approximately 200 words outlining:
- How your degree will change your future
- Why you chose to undertake your degree
- Upload Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status (for more information on this requirement please visit, COA)
- (If applicable) upload evidence of your residential regional, rural or remote address.
*Statements are assessed on content, not language skills. If you access assistance from advisors, tutors or AI technology to complete your personal statement, please ensure that your submission accurately reflects your personal situation with regards to the criteria.

Applications are assessed based on the strength of the:
- Written statement
- Preference will be given to students from rural and/or remote areas.
Selection process
Recipients will be selected by the Scholarships Office, in consultation with the First Peoples Directorate and St Vincent’s Nurses Alumni (SVNA).
Ongoing requirements
To remain eligible for this scholarship, recipients are required to maintain the following each semester for the duration of the scholarship:
- Full-time study load
- Minimum Pass grade for at least two-thirds of enrolled credit points.
- Enrolment in the same course under which the scholarship is awarded either at the Melbourne or Ballarat campus.
Other
- Recipients will be requested to submit an impact statement for the donor explaining how the scholarship has assisted them. The statement should be submitted to the ACU Scholarships Office no later than 1 October each year.
- Recipients agree to the SVNA publicising their successful candidacy and details of the scholarship to their members and on their online communications.
