About this scholarship
APTT is an employment-based program where participants undertake a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate degree in secondary education, whilst being located in, and working at schools within one of seven Cluster Hubs in geographic areas across Queensland and New South Wales/ Australian Capital Territory including:
- Townsville
- Rockhampton
- South East Queensland
- Forbes/Bathurst
- Lake Macquarie
- Paramatta
- South East NSW, Riverina and Tablelands
The program is available to the following:
- Current school administrative and support staff interested in becoming a teacher within their community, or
- Recent school leavers,
- TAFE/Higher Education graduates, interested in teaching in an innovative, supported community-based model.
Individuals looking for a career change are encouraged to apply.
285 scholarships are available across three intakes in 2025, 2026 and 2027 for the Bachelor of Education (Secondary), the Bachelor of Education (Secondary and Special Education), and the Master of Teaching (Secondary).

Commitment to teach obligation
Supported by the Commonwealth Government, the APTT program targets educational disadvantage and teacher workforce challenges in Australian schools. Successful scholarship applicants are expected to teach in a school for at least one year after graduation.

- This scholarship covers the Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) tuition fees (student HECS contribution) for the standard duration of the selected degree, up to a maximum of 320 credit points for the Bachelor of Education degrees, or 160 credit points for the Master of Teaching (Secondary)
- Recipients will engage in a paid paraprofessional role within a school setting, a paid school-based internship and benefit from a range of tailored wraparound supports.

This scholarship is open to those who meet the following criteria:
- Citizenship: domestic
- Study load: full-time
- Faculty: Education Arts
- Course: must be commencing in one of the following in Semester 1, 2025:
- Bachelor of Education (Secondary)
- Bachelor of Education (Secondary and Special Education)
- Master of Teaching (Secondary)
- Recipients must be able to commit to undertaking a placement within one of the seven Cluster Hubs. If required to relocate, you will have to do so at your own cost.
- Campus: Online

Applicants will be required to provide the following as part of the application:
- Written statement* of approximately 250 words responding to the following:
- What inspires you to become a teacher?
- How will this course assist your career aspirations or progression?
- Upload a short (up to 2 minutes) video or audio file to tell us a little bit about yourself and why you want to become a teacher.
Applicants may also need to provide the following:
- If you are applying as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, you will need to provide Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status (for more information on this requirement please visit, COA)
- If you have worked professionally within a school, you will need to provide a professional reference letter e.g. from a school Principal or teacher
- If you have undertaken community service, you will need to provide evidence of this, e.g. a certificate or reference letter
- Shortlisted applicants will need to attend an interview.

Selection criteria
Applications are assessed on the strength on your:
- Written statement
- Short video
- Interview (if you are shorlisted to attend)
- Any other additional information as listed in the details under the Application Process above.
Selection process
Applicants will be shortlisted by the School of Education. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview with a selection committee comprising of representatives from the School of Education.
Ongoing requirements
To remain eligible for this scholarship, recipients are required to maintain the following each semester for the duration of the scholarship:
- Enrolment in the same APTT course under which the scholarship was received.
- A full-time study load
- Online campus
- Remain located within one of the seven hubs, (or in close proximity to attend professional placements and internship).
- Minimum Pass grade for at least two-thirds of enrolled credit points.
- Fee waivers will only be available up to a maximum of 320 credit points for the Bachelor of Education degrees, or 120 credit points for the Master of Teaching (Secondary).
As a requirement of the Commonwealth Government's High Achieving Teachers (HAT) Program Phase Two Pilot, APTT scholarship recipients agree to the following:
- Being contacted by the Commonwealth Government in relation to the APTT Program.
- Commitment to teach obligation: you commit to teach for at least one year after course graduation and agree to the university, in meeting its obligations to the Commonwealth Government, tracking your employment as evidence of meeting this obligation.
- Grant the Commonwealth Government and ACU permission to disclose your Personal Information**, as reasonably required, to an independent evaluator appointed by the Commonwealth Government, for the purpose of evaluating the APTT program.
